leafroll virus on grapeGrape Pathology Research Program

The Grape Pathology Research Program focuses on the development of disease-resistant plants. The current objective is to silence an essential oncogene of the grapevine crown gall pathogen Agrobacterium vitis in a Petunia hybrida model system and to explore the applicability of the gene silencing mechanism for the development of crown gall-resistant grapevines. The program also involves studies on the agronomical impact of latent viral infections on hybrid grapevines.

Dr. Laszlo Kovacs directs this research program.
