Grape Pest Problems

green cluster of grapes with blackrot diseaseBlack rot of grapes is the most common disease of grapes in Missouri.  This disease is caused by a fungus that can infect both the leaves and the fruit (see photo right).  Black rot eventually leaves the berry as a dry raisin-like mummy.  Other fungus diseases that affect grapes include downy mildew and powdery mildew.  For an in depth look at grape diseases, see the web bulletin Diseases of Grapevine in Missouri by Laszlo Kovacs.  You may wish to apply recommended chemicals according to the Missouri Home Fruit Spray Schedule.

Grape flea beetle and grape berry moth are insect pests on grapevines in Missouri.  Follow the Missouri Home Fruit Spray Schedule.

The Kemper Center for Home Gardening - Missouri Botanical Garden has information on integrated pest management listed by host or by pest
