Winter Care of Grapevines

snowy vineyardBuds may be damaged by winter cold temperatures.  If you are growing a less hardy cultivar or have a cold winter (reaching temperatures of -10°F), you may want to delay pruning until the buds are expanding to see how much damage has occurred.  Read more about winter considerations in the web bulletin Cold Hardiness of Grapes:  A guide for Missouri growers by Marilyn Odneal.

Occasionally grapes can be affected by deer nipping off the ends of canes.  For more information on wildlife pests, refer to University of Missouri publications list:
