Growing Strawberries for Home Use

Strawberries are well adapted to Missouri and do not require as many pesticide sprays as do some other fruit crops.  Weeds are the major problem in most cases and must be controlled throughout the season.  Particular care needs to be taken to eradicate perennial weeds from the plot before strawberries are even planted.

Three types of Strawberries can be grown in Missouri.  Junebearing, everbearing and day neutral.  Junebearing strawberries ripen in May and June and are usually managed to begin to bear fruit the year after planting.  Everbearing and dayneutral strawberries will fruit the year they are planted and do well in strawberry barrels, pyramids and pots.
