'Osage' Peach Released from the
Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station
(PH-631)
(An open pollinated seedling of 'Alton')
The
'Osage' is a true cling ripening two weeks before 'Elberta'. It is a large, round peach with red outside and a
greenish-yellow
under color. The flesh is creamy white streaked with red, fine grained,
tender, sweet, firm and with a good peachy flavor. It is a high quality
canning peach, resembling to some extent the "Indian peach" in color and
flavor. The juice is an attractive pink. The tree is vigorous in growth
and has buds which are resistant to low temperatures. Because of its
firmness and ability to hang on the tree, it can be handled leisurely at
harvest time. Introduced 1946.
