Agroforestry
Agroforestry is a new system that encompasses
new market opportunities, sustainable agriculture, land stewardship, habitat
for wildlife, improved water quality, and diversified farm income. It
is tailored to meet the specific needs of the land owner with respect to
capabilities of the land and environment.
Agroforestry research on Chinese Chestnuts is conducted at
the State Fruit Experiment Station in cooperation with Dr. Ken Hunt at the
University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry
http://www.centerforagroforestry.org/ Ten Chinese Chestnut cultivars are
presently being test at the Station. They include Shing, Williamette,
Auburn Super, NC-8, Qing, Mossbarger, Eaton, Sleeping Giant, Peach and
Revival.
A Black Walnut Cultivar Trial is also
underway involving 10 cultivars: Mystery, DOT, Hay, Sparrow, Kwik Krop,
Vandersloot, Mintle, Football, Emma K, and Tomboy. (See photo left of

A Pecan cultivar planting (trial) is
presently under development.
